Introduction:

Week One

Fighting for the Good Land

In the Scriptures, there is a battle for a special land called the “good land.” Satan, who is against God, tries his best to stop God’s people from enjoying this land and having a relationship with Christ. Throughout the Old Testament, there were many battles fought to gain control of this good land.

In the Bible, the land of Canaan has a special meaning. On the positive side, it represents the all-inclusive Christ, who is like a land of riches. This means that Christ is everything to us and is symbolized by the land in the Bible.

In simpler terms, the text is talking about how Satan and his followers try to keep people away from God and Christ. It compares this to how the Canaanites in the Bible tried to stop the Israelites from reaching their promised land. The Canaanites represent the fallen angels who work for Satan and try to prevent people from connecting with God and enjoying His blessings.

The various pagan tribes represent different parts of our everyday life. The gods and idols of these tribes symbolize spiritual evil forces that try to keep us from connecting with Christ. As we grow in our faith, we should aim to remove these negative influences from our lives and let Christ’s teachings guide us instead.

In order to achieve God’s purpose, we must engage in spiritual warfare to overcome evil forces. This battle is like the fight Israel faced when trying to take over the land of Canaan, which was filled with demonic influences. By fighting against these forces, we can gain a deeper connection with Christ and help build a better world.

Day 1:

Eph. 2:2 In which you once walked according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit which is now operating in the sons of disobedience.

In the text, it talks about how people used to live according to the ways of the world and the ruler of the air, which refers to Satan. It also mentions that there are spiritual forces of evil that we wrestle against. The Satan tried to ruin God’s plan for the earth, but God intervened and restored the land, bringing life and a special kind of life that reflects God’s image and authority.

The Lord recovering a piece of land, symbolizing Christ, from the enemy’s interference throughout history, as seen in the Old Testament narratives. Despite repeated disruptions by the enemy, the Lord consistently brings His chosen people back to this land, representing a spiritual journey of restoration and redemption. The land serves as a metaphor for Christ, emphasizing the continuous struggle between God’s restoration efforts and the enemy’s attempts to disrupt His plan.

Day 2:

Deut. 8:7 For Jehovah your God is bringing you to a good land, a land of waterbrooks, of springs and of fountains, flowing forth in valleys and in mountains.

The text explains that in the Old Testament, the concept of the “good land” is revealed but its true meaning as a representation of Christ is hidden within the Scriptures. The promised good land symbolizes Christ, just like the passover in Egypt and the manna in the wilderness were types representing Christ.

In the context of Joshua 5:11 and 12, the text suggests that the good land symbolizes Christ as the continuation of the manna, which was a life supply for God’s people. The transition from manna to the produce of the land signifies a deeper spiritual meaning, where the enjoyment of the good land allowed for the building of the temple, representing a more solid dwelling place for God. This symbolism highlights the significance of the good land as a comprehensive type of Christ, emphasizing the spiritual nourishment and provision found in Him.

In Deuteronomy 8:7-10, various elements such as water, wheat, barley, vines, oil, figs, pomegranates, and minerals are used to symbolize different aspects of Christ. These elements represent different facets of Christ’s nature and role, from His incarnation and crucifixion to His resurrection and provision for His followers. The land, particularly the land of Canaan, is emphasized in the Old Testament as a central symbol of Christ, highlighting His all-encompassing significance and role in fulfilling God’s eternal plan as depicted through the temple and city built on the good land.

Day 3:

Acts 26:18 To open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance…

In Acts 26:18 and 2 Corinthians 4:4, it talks about how people are guided away from darkness and towards light, from Satan’s control to God’s authority, to receive forgiveness and blessings. Ephesians 2 explains that there are different levels in the heavens, with Christ in the highest level as our source of goodness. Just like the Canaanites blocked Israel from their promised land, Satan tries to keep people from connecting with God and Jesus, but we can overcome this through faith and seeking God’s guidance.

The Canaanites symbolize the negative aspects within ourselves (self and flesh) and external evil powers that hinder our spiritual growth. Overcoming these inner struggles and aligning with the divine principles of Christ is essential to engage in spiritual warfare and access the spiritual abundance provided by Christ.

The Triune God being transformed into the all-inclusive Spirit through various stages like incarnation, human living, crucifixion, and resurrection in Christian theology. It emphasizes the importance of believers walking in the Spirit, being united with the Lord, and seeking forgiveness for not living according to Christ’s guidance in their daily lives.

Day 4:

Exo. 23:30 Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have become fruitful and inherit the land.

The frustraters mentioned in Exodus 23:23-24, 32-33 represent obstacles that keep us from reaching our full potential. These frustraters are compared to different aspects of our everyday life, like wanting to make money or being greedy. The text also talks about how idols, which represent false gods, can lead us astray and hinder our spiritual growth.

In Exodus 23:22, it says that if the people of Israel listen to God and follow His instructions, He will help them by defeating their enemies and removing the pagan tribes from their land. God will not remove all the tribes at once, but gradually, so that the land does not become desolate and overrun by wild animals. This teaches us that spiritual growth and overcoming challenges happen gradually, not all at once, just like how the pagan tribes were gradually removed from the land.

When we learn about living a better life, we might want to change everything quickly. But it’s important to take our time and not rush, as changing too fast can leave us vulnerable to negative influences. Just like how the tribes were gradually removed as the number of God’s people grew, our personal growth in faith will lead to gradual changes in our lives, helping us become better over time.

Day 5:

Matt. 6:10 Your kingdom come; Your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.

In a symbolic way, Canaan represents the heavenly part of Satan’s dark kingdom. The Satan, who is considered the ruler of this world, has his authority and angels who work against God’s kingdom. However, through God’s salvation, we are brought out of the darkness of Satan’s kingdom into the kingdom of God’s love.

In the Bible, Canaan does not represent heaven as some might think. Instead, it symbolizes a significant part of Satan’s kingdom with evil rulers and authorities. The enemies in the land of Canaan represent evil angels who rebel against God and follow Satan. The children of Israel had to defeat these evil forces to enter the promised land.

The Canaan is compared to both Christ and the kingdom of Satan. The Canaan represents both good and evil aspects – a land of riches but also filled with evil enemies. To enjoy Christ fully, one must defeat the enemies symbolized by the Canaanites, emphasizing the importance of spiritual warfare as described in Ephesians 6 for the church and its members. The book of Ephesians talks about how Christ provides everything we need. It says that the good things Christ gives us are so great that we can’t even fully understand them. To enjoy these blessings, we have to fight against bad spiritual forces, like evil spirits, who are enemies of God. The text also mentions that the Canaanites represent fallen angels who are now part of Satan’s kingdom, and we need to fight against them like in the story in Numbers 21 to protect ourselves spiritually.

Day 6:

Eph. 6:10-11 Finally, be empowered in the Lord and in the might of His strength. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the stratagems of the devil.

In our Christian journey, we may not fully realize the spiritual battle we face. While we often think of fighting against our own wrong desires and actions, there is a higher level of warfare against evil spirits and demons in the spiritual realm. These evil beings, led by Satan, try to influence people to follow them, but we can resist them by relying on God’s strength and truth.

In the text from Numbers 21:1-3, the children of Israel defeated the king of Arad and made a promise to God to destroy their cities. This story teaches us about fighting against evil spirits, using our Christ-given authority to overcome them, and taking control of their territory. It shows how the Israelites fought against the Canaanites as a symbol of spiritual warfare against evil forces, encouraging us to stand strong against negativity and darkness.

In the story from Numbers 21:21-32, the children of Israel fought against Sihon, a king who wouldn’t let them pass through his land. This battle is like a spiritual fight against evil spirits who try to stop us from moving forward. By defeating Sihon and taking over his land, the Israelites gained a victory over evil, showing that we can overcome challenges and claim victory in our own battles against negativity.
